Our alternatives to New Year’s Resolutions

It’s that time of year again! And if the thought of setting New Year’s Resolutions unnerves you; we’ve got a few fun alternatives which will help you feel positive as you welcome 2023!

Create a Bucket List for the New Year - even if it only has 12 special things to do for you, one a month, it will ensure you plan something unique to enjoy.

Follow a 30-Day Challenge - Jen did STOPTOBER this year, and gave up alcohol for a month and replaced it with baking, experiencing a lot of benefits.

Create a list of things to look forward to or, if you prefer what you are grateful for – do you have a great holiday planned? Is a friend is getting married, or is there a workshop that you’re really looking forward to attending. Or simply, just note with yourself, who and what are you most grateful for.

Decide on a special work for 2023 – choose a word to guide you throughout the year. Why just one word? Because one word gives you clarity and focus. If you were to sit down and write down everything that you want for the new year, and then read over your list, you’d see certain patterns and themes emerging. Once you have these patterns and themes, boil it all down to the one word that encapsulates what you want for the year.

Here are some ideas for your one-word; FLOURISH, DISCIPLINE, SIMPLIFY, JOY, SERENITY, FUN, EXCITEMENT, ACTION.

Reboot an area of your Life – is there one area of your life which has derailed and you wish you could just hit Ctrl+Alt+Del to start all over again. Have you gained weight, debt crept up, or become disillusioned in some ways, allow the New Year to channel your energy into this area.

Use New Year Prompts. Decide what you want for the New Year by using prompts.

Here are five prompts taken from this post, to help steer you;

One habit I’m going to build this year:

§ One habit I’m going to break this year:

§ One person I’m going to spend more time with this year:

§ One thing I’m going to create this year:

§ One word to guide and lift me:

§ 12 adventures I’m going on this year:

As you can see, this is a really simply way of ensuring the year, starts with a positive frame of mind.

Wishing you a very Happy and Healthy New Year, royall x
