Experiential Events: The rise of the ‘outdoor cinema’.
As far as experiential events go there are so many examples to choose from. For each of these events, there will be a specialised experiential agency behind them, the top 45 of which you can see in this year’s Brand Experience Report from Event Magazine.
But one experiential trend creeping its way to the top is the Outdoor Event. I’m not talking concerts, charity runs or fairs. The outdoor cinema trend is on the rise! London based company The Luna Cinema are showing us how it’s done. Branded as ‘The UK’S #1 Outdoor Cinema’ they screen the classics such as Pretty Woman, Breakfast at Tiffany’s & The Bodyguard to the newest releases directly from Hollywood – La La Land – name the most critically acclaimed film of 2017 -, Bridget Jones’ Baby and not forgetting the special effects genius of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. There is something for every age, gender and taste and with a multitude of locations in and around the Capital, you are set to have a night to remember.
I recently went to see the 80’s classic Top Gun, starring Tom Cruise in his prime. Having arrived at Greenwich Park Observatory at 9:30pm, where the film was being screened, I can honestly say I was NOT disappointed. The London skyline at sunset, the atmosphere of families, friends, couples and even a Hen Do picnicking and enjoying the views, all came before nightfall where the moon and stars appeared and the film started. It is the perfect thing to give as a gist to someone, or as ‘Date night’ for couples.
I cannot recommend the experience enough, it’s the ‘Drive-In Movie’ of the 21st Century.
