Should @royall work towards B Corp certification?

We are delighted to share that @royall were successful in a bid to secure the help of three business management students from the University of Portsmouth to assist us with an important project ‘Should @royall work towards B Corp certification?’.

B Corp certification is for organisations that want to balance profit with people and planet.

Think of a B Corp as being to business what Fair Trade is to bananas. It’s a public commitment to ‘meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose’.

It’s saying to the public ‘we’re trying to be better, to reduce harm across the environment, society, and in business and we’ve got the certificate to prove it’. It’s about shifting the focus away from profit and towards purpose.” (www.thesustainableagency.com/blog/what-is-b-corp-certification).

One of our much-loved clients, recently achieved this accreditation with a herculean effort.

Here’s what they say, “As part of B Corp community, we are working towards reducing levels of inequality, lower levels of poverty, a healthier environment, stronger communities and the creation of more high-quality jobs with dignity and purpose”.

@royall has the similar aspirations.

We are inspired by the B Corp ethos however, as a small business, we need to understand if the effort and process to attain is practical both from a people and financial commitment.

We will be looking at:

  • What B Corp certification really is, and the process/commitment involved.

  • The advantages/disadvantages of certification, e.g, are people prepared to spend more on attracting people who want to work for organisations who are doing good?

This project is important to royall as it will shape our approach in demonstrating our commitment to sustainability (people, profit, and purpose) in a tangible and measurable manner.

For us it’s not simply about the environmental and social aspects but also ensuring our business operating practices are also sustainable.

We love to live by our values. This project will also help us achieve goals to ‘support local’ and young talent, by affording them groundwork experience with a local business to improve their skills, communication, and abilities, bringing their academic knowledge to life.

We’d love to hear from any companies in our network that have the B Corp certification.

Equally, if you’d like to hear more about the accreditation and you yourself are curious, please feel free to get in touch.

Great news! When we are curious and contribute, we can share our findings with you!
