Unusual Interviews!

We’ve all been asked the standard run-of the mill and predictable questions ‘what are your strengths?’ and ‘why do you want this job?’ as part of an interview process. Some interviewers ask the most bizarre questions, not because the answer itself is that important, but because they want to know how well a candidate responds to the question. It also gives employers a little insight into the candidate’s real personality, do they have a sense of humour, are they the right cultural fit for the team and company, and can they think on their feet when they haven’t had time to rehearse an answer!

Glassdoor has compiled a list of unusual interview questions here, it makes comical reading!

Asked at SpaceX: "When a hot dog expands, in which direction does it split and why?"

Would you rather fight 1 horse-sized duck, or 100 duck-sized horses?"

Asked at Whole Foods Market: "Would you rather fight 1 horse-sized duck, or 100 duck-sized horses?"

Asked at Dropbox: "If you’re the CEO, what are the first three things you check about the business when you wake up?"

Asked at Urban Outfitters: "What would the name of your debut album be?"

Asked at J.W. Business Acquisitions: "How would you sell hot coco in Florida?"

Asked at HubSpot: "If I gave you $40,000 to start a business, what would you start?"

Asked at Trader Joe's: "What would you do if you found a penguin in the freezer?"

Asked at Boston Consulting Group: "If you were a brand, what would be your motto

Asked at Delta Air Lines: "How many basketballs would fit in this room?"

Asked at Uniqlo: "If you had $2,000, how would you double it in 24 hours?"

And it isn’t just interviewers that have found themselves in unusual situations! What about the questions candidates have asked their prospective employer to put them on the spot, to gauge their sense of humour, or simply because they hadn’t done their research before walking into the interview room!

"What is it that you people do at this company?"

"What is the company motto?"

"Why aren't you in a more interesting business?"

"What are the zodiac signs of all the board members?"

"Why do you want references?"

"Do I have to dress for the next interview?"

"I know this is off the subject, but will you marry me?"

"Will the company move my rock collection from California to Maryland?"

"Will the company pay to relocate my horse?"

"Does your health insurance cover pets?"

"Would it be a problem if I'm angry most of the time?"

"Does your company have a policy regarding concealed weapons?"

"Do you think the company would be willing to lower my pay?"

"Why am I here?"
