Account Director


Remote/flexible working + offices in both Sussex & London

Role Description

The Account Director (AD) will work closely with the Executive AD, the Account Management team and clients to deliver the account strategy and event programme for multiple clients, including some of the companies Key Accounts. They will be the day to day contact for Key Clients, whilst leading and managing the team to ensure project delivery and internal processes are carried out to the highest standard.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Maintain day to day client contact with Key Accounts

  • Ensure regular communication with the wider client pool is being managed effectively by your Account Manager and Account Executive

  • Work collaboratively with your Account Team and the Exec AD to define, plan, implement and evaluate client account strategy

  • Prepare for and lead client and internal account meetings following up with notes and actions, ensuring attendees accountable

  • To be responsible for leading pitches

  • Demonstrate strong leadership and organisational skills, meeting client and account deadlines

  • Review client accounts regularly and identify opportunities for innovation, efficiencies, improvement and value for money

  • Proactively promote the inclusion of feedback and monitoring tools in a client’s account strategy

  • Analyse and identify trends in collected data and use data to define a client account strategy

  • Understand the client’s business and its competition, proactively avoiding potential conflict

  • Develop, maintain and deliver useful reports for the client and Exec AD

  • Develop and deliver against client specific target performance indicators

  • Develop and appraise direct reports through company staff management tools and techniques

  • Develop and maintain a culture of feedback within client account teams

  • Work collaboratively with other Account Director’s to identify innovation, efficiencies or improvements that could benefit one of more accounts

  • Write detailed client briefs and/or define an activity’s scope of works

  • Proactively manage client change requests and effectively log all client sign-offs

  • Provide technical and creative input across a client account, drawing upon wider team knowledge and expertise as required

  • Contribute to the development of proposals and pitches to obtain new business in conjunction with the Sales team

  • Manage and resolve conflicts with account team and/or clients

  • Maintain and take overall responsibility for client account and/or project budgets

  • Promote Identity’s profile within the client organisation, working at client offices when required and if permitted

  • Manage client expectations

  • Provide team with direction based on client experience, knowledge and understanding

  • Provide rapid response to queries

  • Manage the internal process efficiently to ensure maximum profitability

  • Ensure client retention levels remain above 80%

  • To be on-site for flagship events with our clients

  • Collaborate with marketing functions of the business, with the goal of driving further opportunities with existing and new clients alike

  • At times, be willing to travel both nationally and internationally

Skills and Experience


  • Proven track record of business development and account management responsibility

  • Proven track record of people management

  • Previous experience in leading pitches

  • Experience and ability to manage complex budgets

  • Commercial awareness

  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely

  • Good level of computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel

  • Proven organisational skills

  • Proven leadership skills

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Ability to work in a customer focused manner

  • Can demonstrate the ability to carry out tasks within set timeframes and meet deadlines

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and have excellent follow up skills both internally and externally

  • Self-prioritise workload according to business needs

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Self-motivated and punctual

  • Hands on, can do approach

  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and leader

  • Professional and smart in appearance and speech

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure


  • Previous experience in the industry, i.e. brand experience, conferences, live events, print house, conferencing, exhibitions

  • Previous experience managing a client account with an annual spend of £400k+

  • Brand experience along with conferences and live events
